Beyond the Backtest.

At Steppe Quant Labs, we recognize that historical performance is a starting point, not a conclusion. Our verification standards are designed to bridge the gap between theoretical research and live market execution through multi-stage stress testing and data-integrity audits.

The Hierarchy of Evidence

We categorize every trading model based on its verification maturity. No system graduates to institutional deployment without passing all three specific gates of our quant labs internal audit.

Gate 01 Historical Fidelity
Gate 02 Out-of-Sample Resilience
Gate 03 Execution Neutrality

01. Survivorship Bias Mitigation

Backtesting standards often fall victim to look-ahead bias and survivorship bias. At Steppe Quant Labs, our data pipelines include delisted assets and point-in-time fundamental data. This ensures that the model only "knew" what was available at the exact millisecond of the historical trade, preventing artificial inflation of historical returns.

02. Combinatorial Purged Cross-Validation

To combat overfitting, we employ CPCV (Combinatorial Purged Cross-Validation). Instead of a simple "train and test" split, we generate thousands of simulated paths. This allows us to observe how a strategy performs in "failed" regimes that didn't occur in our specific history but are statistically plausible in the future.

Monte Carlo & Tail Risk Profiles

Our systems are subjected to 10,000+ Monte Carlo iterations to determine the "Probability of Ruin" and the Maximum Adverse Excursion (MAE). We do not deploy strategies where a 3-sigma event triggers more than a pre-defined percentage of equity degradation.

99.9%

Hardware Latency

Testing against worst-case execution delays and slippage on Astana-based infrastructure.

Regime Detection

Verifying the algorithm's ability to pivot or cease trading during high-volatility shifts.

Code Audits

Dual-layer review of all logic to eliminate "ghost bugs" in algorithmic implementation.

Walk-Forward

Simulating live deployment via rolling window tests to confirm out-of-sample stability.

Institutional Trust Requirements

Transparency in Signal Generation

While our code is proprietary, our methodology is not a "black box." We provide detailed white papers for every system explaining the economic or statistical rationale behind the signal.

Parameter Sensitivity Analysis

We test the "fragility" of our parameters. If changing a variable by 0.1% causes strategy collapse, the model is rejected as an artifact of data mining rather than a true market signal.

Robustness Audit

T-Cost Modeling

Every simulation includes aggressive Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA). We assume liquidity is lower than advertised and commissions are higher to ensure realistic net-performance expectations.
